Microsoft is rolling out a significant update to Teams Mobile on Android and iOS that changes how non-Office and PDF links are handled within the app.<\/p>\n

Beginning in late February 2026, users will be presented with a browser selection prompt when tapping links to files that aren\u2019t Office documents (Word, Excel, or PowerPoint) or PDFs. The update is designed to improve both security posture and user experience by actively encouraging the adoption of Microsoft Edge.<\/p>\n

When a user taps a qualifying link, a bottom-sheet pop-up will appear, asking them to select their preferred browser.<\/p>\n

Microsoft Edge is being positioned as the recommended choice due to its native support for Single Sign-On (SSO)<\/a>, built-in Copilot integration, and enhanced enterprise security controls.<\/p>\n

If a user selects Edge but hasn\u2019t installed it, they will be prompted to download the browser before proceeding. The rollout applies across Worldwide, DoD, GCC, and GCCH tenants and is expected to begin and complete within late February 2026.<\/p>\n

The feature is enabled by default for all tenants, meaning organizations will see this behavior take effect without any manual action required.<\/p>\n

However, IT administrators retain full control over the feature through PowerShell using the TeamsMobilityPolicy policy. The key attribute is LinksInTeams, which accepts two values: OfferBrowserOptions to enable the browser selection prompt, and UseSystemDefaults to revert to the device\u2019s default browser behavior and disable the feature entirely.<\/p>\n

Microsoft advertised Admins in message ID MC1216263<\/a> to review their current TeamsMobilityPolicy configurations and update internal documentation accordingly. Helpdesk teams should also be briefed on the new browser-selection experience to handle incoming user queries efficiently.<\/p>\n

Organizations that operate in tightly controlled environments or have standardized browser deployments may want to proactively set LinksInTeams to UseSystemDefaults to avoid workflow disruption.<\/p>\n

For end users who wish to customize their experience, the setting is accessible directly within the Teams Mobile app. Users can tap their profile icon in the upper-left corner, navigate to Settings, and then select Links in Teams to manage their browser preference.<\/p>\n

Microsoft has confirmed that no compliance considerations have been identified with this change, though organizations are encouraged to review it against their own policies.<\/p>\n

Microsoft noted it will actively monitor user satisfaction (DSAT), Edge installation rates, and retention metrics throughout the rollout period to gauge adoption and address any issues.<\/p>\n
